Product Name: Copper nitrate
CAS No.: 3251-23-8
EINECS No.: 221-838-5
Molecular formula: Cu(NO3)2.3H2O
Molecular weight: 241.60
Physical and chemical properties: Copper nitrate has three hydrates of trihydrate, hexahydrate and nonahydrate. The trihydrate is dark blue columnar crystals with a relative density of 2.05 and a melting point of 114.5°C.?Heating copper nitrate decomposes at 170°C to form insoluble basic salt Cu(NO3)2l Cu(OH)2, and continues to heat it to convert to copper oxide.?It is easily soluble in water and ethanol, and its aqueous solution is acidic and easy to absorb moisture.?Copper nitrate is a strong oxidant. It can cause combustion and explosion when heated, rubbed or hit with carbon dust, sulfur or other combustible substances.
Uses: Copper nitrate is used as a catalyst, oxidant, phosphor activator and photoresistor material.
